WEBASSIGNMENTS



Have you ever been in hospital? Whether it is for a short stay or a longer time, life in hospital can be quite difficult. Strange people, difficult words, no privacy...

You are going to take a look at the website of Great Ormond Street Hospital, a children’s hospital.

Go to

In the menu on the left, click on About us.


1 In what year was Great Ormond Street Hospital formed?


Now click on Teenagers in the menu at the top, and then in the left-hand menu Real stories. Read Isobel’s story. 

2 Isobel was at college on a course she didn’t like. What did she do to cope (aankunnen)?

3 What physical side-effect was she diagnosed with?

4 Now Isobel is in recovery and gaining weight. What three improvements has she noticed about herself?

Now click on Medical conditions at the top of the page.

5 What is a tonsillectomy?
6 What is the Dutch word for tonsils?
Click on Teenagers again at the top of the page, and then on Healthy Eating. Now click on Your weight and BMI.
7 Which four medical problems can be caused by obesity?

Now click on Find your BMI and find out if you are a healthy eater.

Now go back one page and in the menu on the left, click on You are what you eat. Now click on Vegetarianism.

8 What do vegans avoid eating?
9 Is it healthy to be a vegetarian? Explain your answer.

If you have some time left, you might want to try a game. Click on the link to The Vegetarian Society’s website. Now click on Young Veggies at the top of the page. You can have a look around the site or click on Fun Stuff, and then Games. Enjoy!
